Step 1: Choose a suitable box before deciding on the design.
The box can be as large or small as you like, provided you have sufficient decoupage materials to cover it and it will work for its intended purpose.
Sources of suitable boxes include:
Hat boxes, papier mâché boxes, dollar store boxes Grocery or food packaging boxes Homemade boxes Craft boxes. -
Step 2: Clean the box before using.
Tip it upside down to remove any debris, fluff or dust.
Give it a good dusting if it's dusty (you can also use the brush nozzle of a vacuum cleaner).
If the box is coated with a shiny layer, you may be able to gently wipe down with a damp cloth as well.
Remove any parts of the box that you don't want to keep, such as flaps.
Smooth and/or tape down any tears or holes.
