Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Step 1: Go to the command prompt for both computers.

    You can get to the command prompt by searching cmd from the Windows start menu search bar or Start->All Programs->Accessories.
  2. Step 2: Enter the command ipconfig.

    This will display the IP addresses for the ethernet adapters installed in the computers.

    You should see a list of addresses appear on the screen. , This command will provide you with the MAC address for a host computer. ,,, This ensures that the packet will go out as a broadcast on the network. ,,,,,
  3. Step 3: Enter the command getmac (using the command prompt) on the computer that will be sending out the packet.

  6. Step 6: Under the Ethernet Type II header enter the Destination Address "FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF".

  11. Step 11: Enter the destination IP address obtained in Step 2 from the destination computer in the Destination IP field using quad dotted format.

  12. Step 12: Right click on the packet in the packet list pane on the right hand side of the program and click "Send Selected Packets...".
