Step 1: You will need a piece of 3/8’’ x 3/8” high speed steel approx 3” long and a pedestal grinder.
Rotate the piece towards you 8’ and grind a small length of the work piece (approx 3/8”) until the new face touches the top edge.
This will form the cutting edge., Rotate the piece towards you 10’ and grind until the face touches the same edge as the previously ground surface.
Grind to the length of the cutting edge., Make sure that it continues down the length of that edge (not the cutting edge)., In the end you should end up with a cutting edge that is 3/8” along the length with a 72’ angle (90-10-8) look in the front view., Point the piece left 60’ and angle the front end down 10’ then grind until the new face touches both sides.,, In the end you should end up with a 60’cutting edge looking in the top view., -
Step 2: Hold the piece in your hand with the front facing the grinding wheel

Step 5: and start grinding till the new face touches both long sides of the work piece.

Step 6: Hold the piece so that the top is facing the grinder and the front is facing left.

Step 8: To the best of your ability grind the sharp point (looking in the top view) into a small round.

Step 9: Check the angles with a protractor and make any necessary adjustments.

Step 10: Turn the piece around so that back is facing the grinder.

Step 11: Hold the piece straight again then point it right at 60’

Step 12: angle the back end down 10’ then grind

Step 13: but only until the face is approx 2mm in length (looking from the top view).

Step 14: Check the angles with a protractor and make any necessary adjustments.

Step 15: Use a honing stone to take off any burrs and to polish off all the ground surfaces but rubbing it flat against the surfaces.
