How to Repair an LED Grow Light
Know what needs replacing., Lay the led grow light face down (fans facing you) on a soft towel , polystyrene block etc to avoid damage to face of led grow light. , Loosen the case screws with a screwdriver and put the screws somewhere safe. , Now...
Step-by-Step Guide
-
Step 1: Know what needs replacing.
The two components that are most likely to require replacement on a led grow light are the power converters and the led diodes themselves , a fault developing with the led diodes themselves would be unusual as quality led diodes from market leading manufacturers Cree, Osram, Bridgelux etc., very rarely display faults.
More often than not, it is a problem with the power converters that cause the faults in led grow lights. -
Step 2: Lay the led grow light face down (fans facing you) on a soft towel
,,,, Simply unclip these electrical connections to enable the front case to be separated from the rear case.
You will notice that the rear case has black boxes which connect to the front case via electrical wires which you have just unclipped , these black boxes on the rear case are the power converters. , The power converters are normally held in place by a small bar placed over the power converters and held in place by two small bolts.Undo these two nuts and remove the retaining bar , unclip the power lead into the power converter and lift out the faulty power converter. , This is a straightforward process.
Connect the new power converter to the power lead previously disconnected.
Place the power converter in position and place the retaining bar over the power converters.Screw on the bolts on the retaining bar and connect the front case to the rear case via the small electrical clips previously unclipped.
Now screw the front case and rear case together and turn on your led grow light.
Job done! ,, Put these screws in a safe place to use again when rebuilding your led grow light. ,, -
Step 3: polystyrene block etc to avoid damage to face of led grow light.
-
Step 4: Loosen the case screws with a screwdriver and put the screws somewhere safe.
-
Step 5: Now pull apart the front case and back case
-
Step 6: pull the cases apart slowly to prevent pulling the internal electrical connections.
-
Step 7: The internal electronics and electrical components can now easily be viewed.
-
Step 8: The front case of the LED grow light houses the led panels and are connected to the rear case by 3-6 electrical connections(depending upon light size).
-
Step 9: At this point
-
Step 10: if a power converter is to be replaced these are now easily viewed(see step above to identify power converters) as are the extract fans.
-
Step 11: Fit the new power converter.
-
Step 12: In the unlikely event that the led diodes are faulty proceed as follows.
-
Step 13: Place front case on soft towel etc to prevent damage to the face of the led grow light and remove the retaining screws holding the led panel in position.
-
Step 14: Now carefully remove the case from the led grow panel.
-
Step 15: Once you have the led grow panel removed
-
Step 16: refitting is an exact reversal
