Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Step 1: Find a well lit

    Remove your camera's battery, viewfinder eyepiece, memory card and lens. replace it with a lens cap.
  2. Step 2: dust free environment as your work area.

  3. Step 3: Get your precision screwdriver (2.0mm) and remove the screws near the viewfinder.

  4. Step 4: Peel the rubber grip

  5. Step 5: be careful not to tear this

  6. Step 6: you can usually replace it back with no hassle as long as the adhesives are still there.

  7. Step 7: Once the rubber grip is removed it will expose a screw

  8. Step 8: remove this as well.

  9. Step 9: Unscrew all screws remaining under the battery compartment.

  10. Step 10: With all the screws removed

  11. Step 11: the back part of the camera will easily be collapse

  12. Step 12: do not rush this

  13. Step 13: you still need to separate the back part or LCD part from the camera body.

  14. Step 14: Connecting the ribbon for the camera's board is a clip

  15. Step 15: although it looks intimidating

  16. Step 16: all you have to do is lift the lock of the clip you can use your fingers but better if you use a flat headed precision tool or a spudger.

  17. Step 17: Once the locks are lifted the ribbon slides out smoothly and this will separate the back panel of the camera from the main body.

  18. Step 18: Now remove the screws of the front part of the camera body.

  19. Step 19: Peel the rubber grip near the shutter button

  20. Step 20: this will expose more screws.

  21. Step 21: Remove these screws accordingly.

  22. Step 22: There are screws to remove near the shutter button as well.

  23. Step 23: There are screws hidden in the strap mount

  24. Step 24: you need to take this out so the upper panel of the body can be remove.

  25. Step 25: Once this screws are removed you will notice that some plastic parts of the camera will begin to loosen off.

  26. Step 26: The memory card compartment can now be easily remove.

  27. Step 27: The plastic part of the front body can be remove by lifting it slowly.

  28. Step 28: Remove the diopter Adjustment Knob.

  29. Step 29: Now flip the camera body and look for remaining screws that hold the upper panel of the camera

  30. Step 30: usually it's the screws on the strap mount.

  31. Step 31: With all the screws removed you can now detach the upper panel of the camera.

  32. Step 32: You will notice that dirt has accumulated on this part.

  33. Step 33: Use a spudger or any flat tool to remove the metal housing of the shutter button.

  34. Step 34: Once it you detached it

  35. Step 35: lay it down on a clean cloth

  36. Step 36: get a cotton swab and carefully clean it with alcohol.

  37. Step 37: After cleaning

  38. Step 38: put it back and make sure the button parts are in correct order.

  39. Step 39: Since you camera is still apart

  40. Step 40: this is the best opportunity to dust off the internals of your camera.

  41. Step 41: Repeat steps in reverse once you're done.

  42. Step 42: Viola now you have a clean shutter button

  43. Step 43: you can feel how responsive it is once you press it fires!
