Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Step 1: Open Paint.Net with a file of about 800 * 600.;

    Use the following settings:
    Scale
    - 250 Roughness
    - .5 Blend Mode
    - Difference , You are reapplying the effect.

    If you look closely at the screenshot, you will see what looks like lightning in the clouds. , Use the following settings:
    Operator
    - Dilate Structure
    - 3 Shape
    - Square ,, Choose a number between

    Wherever you like it.

    Don't be alarmed at the colors that you see. ,, (Be sure not to hit Black and White Alpha, they aren't the same). ,,
  2. Step 2: Be sure that you have the following plugins: Erode / Dilate Height to Normal

  3. Step 3: If not

  4. Step 4: install the plugins.

  5. Step 5: Click on Effects >> Render >> Clouds.

  6. Step 6: Hit CTRL F a couple of times

  7. Step 7: till you get something that makes you think of lightning.

  8. Step 8: Click on Effects >> Erode/Dilate.

  9. Step 9: Hit CTRL F. This is very important for the texture.

  10. Step 10: Go to Effects >> Height Field to Normal Map and slide the bar.

  11. Step 11: Invert the colors by going to Adjustments >> Invert Colors.

  12. Step 12: Convert to Black and White by going to Adjustments >> Black and White.

  13. Step 13: Give your finished product a descriptive name so you can find it later.

  14. Step 14: Finished.
