How to Add Fade in iMovie

Step-by-Step Guide

   Step 1: Open your iMovie program and select the iMovie project you want to add a fade to.

   You will see your iMovie project's video clips as a timeline in the video editing section of the iMovie screen located in the upper left hand quadrant.

   Step 2: Go to the "Windows" tab located along the top pane of your iMovie program.

   , This will bring up a "Transitions" screen located at the bottom right hand corner of the iMovie project quadrant.
   
   This "Transitions" section will show you a list of transitioning options to add to your iMovie project.
   
   These transitions editing effects can be put in front of, in between, or at the end of your video clips or images to create a smoother transitioning effect. ,,, Place the "Fade Through Black" transition effect behind the video clip or image you want iMovie to add a fade out to within your iMovie project. , This will activate the iMovie playback feature so you can preview your work and fine-tune it accordingly.

   Step 3: Scroll down the menu and select the "Transitions" option (for Mac users the shortcut is "Command -> 4").

   Step 4: Select the "Fade Through Black" transition option.

   Step 5: Click and drag the "Fade Through Black" transition effect to place it in the video clips viewing/editing timeline.

   Step 6: Place the "Fade Through Black" transition effect in front of the video clip or image you want to add the fade in to.

   Step 7: Click on the very beginning of the video clip viewing/editing timeline section located on the upper left quadrant of your iMovie project (directly before the fade in transition effect you have just added) and press the "Space" bar on your keyboard.
