Step 1: Open your image in Howler.
In this shot, everything but the face will be selected. ,, Don't forget that you will be able to feather the selection later.
It took 450px in x1 to get the selection that you see here. , For this particular image, it is
1325. ,,, If there is already a setting there, click on Reset. , In the Multiply tab, maybe try to remove a little red from the picture, to see what happens. ,, Each of the tabs has a different effect.
Just keep experimenting. , The Glove filter was used on this one. -
Step 2: Determine where you want the selection.

Step 3: Go to Select+Numerical Selection....

Step 4: Start entering in a number to get a feel for what you want to accomplish.

Step 5: Repeat the process for x2.

Step 6: Continue on in this way for the top and bottom (Y1

Step 7: Y2) numbers.

Step 8: Go to Selection+Invert Alpha to invert your selection (alpha).

Step 9: Go to Filters+Adjust+Colors...

Step 10: Note the three tabs at the top of your options.

Step 11: Try the same thing with the Add tab and see what a difference Add and Multiply can create.

Step 12: Go to the Advanced tab.

Step 13: Have fun playing with the software.
