Step 1: Go to the Pokémon League past Victory Road.
You may find helpful a Pokémon with a move like Mean Look or an ability like Shadow Tag.
This keeps it from escaping right when the battle starts. -
Step 2: Go to the Pokémon Center and buy a couple Quick Balls and some regular Pokeballs.
You may need a lot of Ultra Balls and Timer Balls. ,, Go to that route. , Go in the tall grass.
The regular Pokémon music won't pop up; it'll be different and the graphics are different too. , If you don't use Mean Look or Shadow Tag (or something similar), it will bounce all over Unova, making it hard to keep up with and track down. , Avoid a burn, however (Will-O-Wisp).
If your Pokémon doesn't have that move, or Mean Look, just throw a Quick Ball at it. -
Step 3: Make sure you obtained a Quick Ball

Step 4: because that's what you will be throwing at Thundurus.

Step 5: Go to a gate and look in the bulletin board to see where there is an "unusual" thunderstorm.

Step 6: It should be raining hard and expect lightning and thunderbolts.

Step 7: Try to keep it from running away.
