Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Step 1: Start by removing the seat

    To turn over the engine, slowly using the kickstarter by hand and/or using an allen key on the crankshaft will work.

    The crank to camshaft timing will line up in two spots, MAKE SURE that before you have it so that ALL VALVES are in the closed position by simply making sure the cam lobes are pointed up and rearward on the motorcycle (and not depressing the valves) ,, It will have to be bent slightly to get it fit between the lobe and the top of the valve bucket. , Repeat step for both intake valves. ,,, Repeat step for both exhaust valves. , (indicated in manual) ,,,
  2. Step 2: gas tank

  3. Step 3: and rad shroud plastics.

  4. Step 4: With some water and a shop towel wash the area around the cylinder head clean.

  5. Step 5: Take out the spark plug cap and set it aside.

  6. Step 6: Remove the 2 (10mm) rocker cover bolts.

  7. Step 7: Remove the spark plug.

  8. Step 8: Remove the crankshaft hole cap from the crankcase.

  9. Step 9: Find top dead centre by turning the engine over until the punch mark on the crankshaft lines up with the arrow on the crankcase (see picture).

  10. Step 10: Once TDC is found

  11. Step 11: find the specified feeler gauge thickness for intake valves (refer to owner's manual)

  12. Step 12: Using the right feeler gauge thickness for the intake valves

  13. Step 13: slide it down on the front facing side of the cam lobe.

  14. Step 14: Slide the feeler gauge up and down through the gap a couple of times to confirm that it can move freely

  15. Step 15: and that the valve is within spec.

  16. Step 16: Select the optimal exhaust feeler gauge thickness as indicated in the owner's manual.

  17. Step 17: Using the proper feeler gauge thickness for the exhaust valves

  18. Step 18: horizontally slide it beneath rocker arm tip and the top of the exhaust valve.

  19. Step 19: Slide the feeler gauge back and fourth through to confirm that it can move freely

  20. Step 20: and that the valve is within spec.

  21. Step 21: Re-install rocker cover and torque the 2 bolts to spec.

  22. Step 22: Re-install crankcase hole cover

  23. Step 23: spark plug and spark plug cap.

  24. Step 24: Re-install gas tank

  25. Step 25: plastics and seat.
