Step 1: Get yourself ready for a mental journey and not-so-much a physical journey;
Eg:
If people are generally told to take their children to 1st grade in the morning it is nearly impossible to imagine people taking their children at 10PM. , Eg:
How many times can you see a male president presented without believing there is something inherently male about being an American President. , Your thinking is largely shaped by the information you received that had little to do with choices you made.
The person who shaped that information for you was a product of the same cycle of receiving their information from someone else's choices. ,,,,, A graphic example of this is ONE can want to hit a child in anger, but their mind stops the behavior. ,,,, Ask a child to look at a modern picture of a president in a wheelchair, or very overweight, or of Asian decent and they often will report the picture does not look like an American President , ,,, Eg:
Two people stare at an ocean from the beach and one is in fear of the waves and ocean that can kill them and the other sees it as the source of all life on Earth (water).
It is the same information but two different angles of perception. , -
Step 2: Understand that WE are just a product of the information we receive and that it is incredibly difficult to step-out of the times that we live-in.
-
Step 3: Understand that over the course of your lifetime you will receive millions of images and bits of information that promote your thinking and stereotypes.
-
Step 4: Realize you are a product of information that is/was given to you.
-
Step 5: Realize that if someone told you as a small girl/boy that the world was flat (and was able to control all the information you received from other sources)
-
Step 6: today you would run around believing the world is flat.
-
Step 7: Understand that there is nothing inherently in you that deciphers truth.
-
Step 8: Accept that you must be filled with bits of false information created by others.
-
Step 9: Accept that you too
-
Step 10: like nearly everyone to different degrees
-
Step 11: has prejudices and racial perceptions.
-
Step 12: Understand that by you admitting it you have given yourself the most powerful weapon for not acting on it.
-
Step 13: Realize that having a perception DOES not determine that you will act on that faulty perception
-
Step 14: Understanding that ideas you have received or information you have received could be false
-
Step 15: PREPARES you for the process of finding more truth.
-
Step 16: Practice the process of examining information you receive (critical thinking) as this prepares you against faulty ideas.
-
Step 17: Understand how deeply false perception gets absorbed by people in society.
-
Step 18: Understand those examples are not inherent to their thinking (some type of natural truth) but instead perceptions given to them by others (media
-
Step 19: Realize that perhaps humans are naturally incline to prejudices (separating "others" for evolutionary self protection)
-
Step 20: Accept you are a product of your times and just human Realize that like a person afraid to fly
-
Step 21: perceptions can easily change with information and self awareness
-
Step 22: Realize you decide the angle of how you view the information.
-
Step 23: Attempt to increase new types of information into your world and new perceptions Practicing replacement experiences and or information or perceptions can help the journey
