try something like "How about...". , Instead of telling him/her the "you should s"
try asking him/her what he/she really wants and how he/she would like the matter to be settled. , In that way, he/she would think twice and might reconsider his/her decision. , Now this is really the difficult part, you should be very careful in approaching your friend about his/her wrong decision. , If he/she shares what he/she feels about the situation, it might help explain why he/she chose that kind of decision. ,, That might help him/her realize what is really going on. , But of course, in a polite manner.
