Step 1: Make a drain snake.
Carefully untwist the top of a wire hanger with pliers.
Press and fold the wire hook to make it tight enough to fit down the drain.

Drill a series of small holes into the wall to reach behind the drywall.

To make a small skimmer, leave one third of the length of the wire as a handle, or attach a separate, stretch out hanger as a handle to make a larger one.
