Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Step 1: Create a new document - 250px * 250px.

    The foreground color (3f59b7) should be lighter than the background color (523c72).

    For this tutorial, two shades of blue will be used.

    Note that they are not web safe.

    If you will be using your image on the Internet, you might want to use web safe colors., Stroke from the left to the right of your image so that the left is lighter than the right. , You can create a new layer by pressing Ctrl + N.

    Name it Dark Wind. ,,, Start out with the following settings, but feel free to change them to suit your purposes.

    Rotate the image by
    -90 degrees. , Check:
    Map from top & To Polar (you can check Map Backwards it does not matter.) ,,

  3. Step 3: Fill your background with a linear gradient.

  4. Step 4: Make a new layer and name it (so you can tell it apart from the background).

  5. Step 5: Click on the arrow on the side and pull it over to the 40px mark.

  6. Step 6: Fill the selection with a darker color (4a4d58).

  7. Step 7: Select Filters >> Distort >> Wind.

  8. Step 8: Click OK.

  9. Step 9: Staying on the wind layer

  10. Step 10: deselect the selection with SHIFT + Ctrl + A.

  11. Step 11: Hit SHIFT + Ctrl + F to reapply the Wind distortion filter.

  12. Step 12: Click OK.

  13. Step 13: Create another layer and name it Light Wind.

  28. Step 28: Select Edit >> Paste Into

  30. Step 30: Select the Flip tool (Shift + F) and click the new layer and flip it horizontally.

  31. Step 31: Turn the visibility of the background layer back on (Click on the eye).

  32. Step 32: Create another new layer.

  33. Step 33: Add a new vertical guide at 80px.

  34. Step 34: Select the rectangle selection tool and create a rectangular selection about 5-8px wide.

  35. Step 35: Change your foreground color to a lighter color.

  36. Step 36: select the bucket fill tool (Shift + B) and fill the selection with the new color.

  37. Step 37: Select Filters >> Distort >> Shift.

  38. Step 38: Click OK

  39. Step 39: Select Filters >> Blur >> Gaussian Blur.

  40. Step 40: Click OK.

  41. Step 41: Select Filters >> Distorts >> Wind.

  42. Step 42: Click OK.

  43. Step 43: Press Shift + CTRL + F (Filters >> reshow "Wind").

  44. Step 44: Click OK.

  45. Step 45: Create another new layer.

  46. Step 46: Select your Rectangle Selection tool (R).

  47. Step 47: Make a rectangle selection from top to bottom on the right side at about 220pix and drag to the right.

  48. Step 48: Select your Bucket Fill Tool (Shift + B) than fill the selected area with black.

  49. Step 49: Create a new rectangle selection from top to bottom at about 15px and drag left.

  50. Step 50: Fill this selected area with white.

  51. Step 51: Select Edit >> Copy Visible than select Edit >> Paste As New Image.

  52. Step 52: Select Filters >> Distorts >> Polar Coordinates Polar Coordinates Settings Circle Depth %: 100 Offset angle: 359.0 (really doesn't matter what you set this to.)

  53. Step 53: Click OK.

  54. Step 54: Finish it off by creating a new layer and filling it with white then lower the layer under your main eye texture.
