Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Step 1: Open SONAR.

    For starters, let's choose Blank and click "OK". ,,,,, Be careful, if your output is a setup of speakers, then your microphone might provide feedback.

    This could lead to damage of the computer's and/or microphone's hardware. , Note:
    Your input should be the highest volume possible without clipping.

    Clipping is the event of the input signal being so loud as being unable to be represented as a binary number.

    So, generally, your input should lie between
    -12 to
    -8 dB. ,,,,
  2. Step 2: Select "new"

  3. Step 3: either by clicking the "New" button on the top left corner

  4. Step 4: as shown in View A or by selecting "File==>New" as in View B.

  5. Step 5: Type in a name.

  6. Step 6: Now select the template you want your new project to be based on.

  7. Step 7: Right click on the blank strip on the left hand side of the screen and choose "new audio track".

  8. Step 8: Now click on the tiny square to the right of the track to maximize it.

  9. Step 9: select your input.

  10. Step 10: select your output.

  11. Step 11: to check if your setup is working

  12. Step 12: click on the input echo button.

  13. Step 13: Once you have determined your input level

  14. Step 14: you can start recording.

  15. Step 15: Arm the track for record.

  16. Step 16: Hit record.

  17. Step 17: Hit stop when you're finished.

  18. Step 18: Advanced users can add desired plugins to the final mix so that it can be mastered.
