Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Step 1: Preheat the oven to 160ºC.

    If fan force, preheat to 140ºC only.

    Prepare the baking trays (sheets) by lining with baking paper.
  2. Step 2: Beat the butter and icing sugar until creamy.

    Use an electric mixer if wished. , Mix together to form a soft dough.

    Remove the cookie dough onto a clean work surface and knead it for 5 minutes.

    Once smooth, stop kneading. , Place the dough on it and another sheet over the top.

    Roll the dough out over the top sheet of paper.

    Aim for about a 1 centimeter (0.4 in) thickness of dough. , Use the end of a glass or a circle cookie cutter. , Brush with the milk to form a glaze when cooking.

    Sprinkle each cookie with a little white sugar to complete. , Bake for 15 minutes or until a golden colour. , Remove from the trays onto a wire cooling rack to cool completely. , Once cooled, the cookies are ready to serve with a cup of chai.

    If storing, place in an airtight container and eat within a few days of baking.
