Step 1: Cream the butter or margarine and sugar together.
Continue mixing until it turns light and fluffy. -
Step 2: Add the flour and salt.
Mix through until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. , Mix through until a soft dough forms. , Once kneaded, form it into a sausage shape and cover with plastic food wrap. , Leave until it chills completely. , Preheat the oven to 170ºC/325ºF. , Place on a greased tray readied for baking.
Press in nuts, sprinkle on sugar, etc., at this stage if the topping is also to be baked. , Bake for 10 minutes, or until the cookies start to brown. , Ice/decorate as wished.
These also worked well stuck together with jam, frosting, etc. -
