Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Step 1: Locate the screws on either side of the grid strainer above the drain.

    If it is clean, you can set it aside for now.

    If it is covered in old caulk or debris, clean it before setting it aside for later. , This will be a flange or small ledge that extends out past the pipe on all sides. ,,,, Make this cut approximately halfway down the caulk's tip to ensure a large enough opening to easily cover the drain threads in caulk. ,,,, Hold the caulk gun at a 45-degree angle to the threads and move it slowly to get a thick, continuous bead of caulk. , Twist it down tightly; caulk will seep out around the drain.

  13. Step 13: Squeeze the trigger on the caulk tube and apply a thick layer of caulk to the underside of the drain all along the threads.

  14. Step 14: Screw the drain back down into the drain pipe.

  15. Step 15: Use a wet paper towel to wipe away the excess caulk from the base of the shower.

  16. Step 16: Screw the grid strainer back into place.

  17. Step 17: Wait at least 24 hours before using the shower for the caulk to dry.
