Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Step 1: Prepare 2 rectangular package cakes that can be easily form-fitted to fit with round corners.

If you'd like to make the black iPhone, you'll still need to make a white package cake.

As long as you don't use an "Angel Food Cake Mix" mix, you can use whatever style of cake you'd like, whether that be chocolate or vanilla or whatever flavoring. ,, Set the leveler so that cake can become nice and level in the end.,, This can become a pattern for the cake to know where you'll need to cut to "trim off" some of the cake and to provide other uses later.

Make this "pattern" big enough so that you can provide some "button-like pieces" later.,,, Make sure the fondant is measured out to be a bit bigger on all of the cakes sides, otherwise you'll lose that special "iPhone effect" that the cake must desire.

If you've ever seen a real iPhone, you'll know that the sides are always solid and the edges always end up forming a nice round edge.,,,,,, Make sure not to forget the "Call" and "Messaging" and "AppStore" apps, so make sure to create those apps first.

Be sure to follow the sample cut out of the iPhone you used earlier, to understand what these buttons look like.  , For a real iPhone effect, make sure not to exceed 4 apps across and to place no more than 4 "apps" on the bottom of the "screen".
  2. Step 2: Bake the cake

  3. Step 3: following the steps provided on the cake box and allow the cake to cool.

  4. Step 4: Use a cake leveler so that the top of the cake is one solid cake and doesn't have "caps" of mix and in other spots is lower.

  5. Step 5: Remove the top (cut-away) piece

  6. Step 6: and set that aside.

  7. Step 7: Print off an image of an iPhone that can be found in some places on the Internet.

  8. Step 8: Cut off the cake's flat sides and trim off a nice round edge around all four edges of the cake.

  9. Step 9: Apply a complete round of icing on the entire cake including the edges where the top meets the sides and the sides themselves too.

  10. Step 10: Use cake-fondant of the color of the "iPhone" you'd like to show off the phone cake as

  11. Step 11: to make sure the cake is completely covered in the color.

  12. Step 12: Cut off the remainder of the fondant to make the cake all nice and pretty.

  13. Step 13: Cut off some strips of another colored fondant (preferably grey (for white iPhones) or black (for black iPhones)) that you can use to wrap around the iPhone cake that replicates the "holding area" that iPhones have.

  14. Step 14: Cut out some of the "buttons" out of the same colored fondant.

  15. Step 15: Use a toothpick to attach these "buttons" to the cake itself.

  16. Step 16: Add in all the other effects

  17. Step 17: such as the earpiece and power buttons

  18. Step 18: and even a small circular Home button at the bottom center of the IPhone cake "device".

  19. Step 19: Use several colors of fondant to create some of the apps all devices have.

  20. Step 20: Use a few more toothpicks to stick these apps into the cake

  21. Step 21: or use the water and a brush to brush them onto the cake.
